The reboot will be called Heroes: Eclipsed with original creator Tom King back at the helm.
Heroes saw ordinary human beings develop supernatural powers and followed their lives as they came to terms with their new abilities.
The original run first kicked off in 2007 and ran for four seasons before being axed.
In the UK, the series was broadcast on ITV.
Heroes: Eclipsed will be set years after the first plot line as new evos will be awoken.
While the show will feature a predominantly new cast, familiar villains are set to return.
However, news of the reboot hasn’t gone down well with Heroes’ fan base.
Taking to social media, they pointed out how bosses could’ve have announced the news earlier this week as the solar eclipse took place.
One fan said: “‘Maybe ya could’ve announced this … 2 days ago?”
A second fumed: “They had the perfect opportunity to announce this two days ago?”
“All of a sudden after an eclipse? Hahahah that’s hilarious but I love it,” joked a third.
While a fourth commented: “If they can find a cast with as much chemistry as this one it can be monumental!”
Heroes briefly returned in 2015 with a miniseries that was a continuation of the original run.
