CHANNEL 4 is bringing back its raunchiest drama ever after becoming a ratings winner.
The broadcaster will be hoping to have fans hooked once again when The Couple Next Door makes its return next year.
The Couple Next Door will be back for a second series[/caption]It’s eye-popping antics left fans hot under the collar as they tuned in week-by-week to see the seriously smoking stars strip off in the daring drama hit.
When the psychological drama, which centres around two couples whose romantic and sex lives intertwined, first debuted last year, it became a runaway hit for the network.
It became Channel 4‘s biggest scripted streaming launch on record with the first episode easily notching up more than a million views on streaming in its first week in addition to its TV ratings.
However, things will be slightly different this time around.
In a brave move, Channel 4 has axed the entire lead cast and will be replacing them with four new characters.
Nashville star and singer Sam Palladio will head up the cast alongside The Split’s Annabel Scholey, Aggy K Adams (The Witcher) and Sendhil Ramamurthy, famed for One Piece.
Although the leading characters will be brand new, it seems that the show’s new series will still be taking place in the same universe as the first.
Rather than a complete overhaul, the show will be bringing back one notable character from the first edition in order to link the series together.
Outnumbered star Hugh Dennis will be reprising his role as the couple’s neighbour Alan Richardson.
A teaser synopsis for the upcoming second series reads: “Heart surgeon Charlotte Roberts (Scholey) and her husband, consultant anesthetist Jacob (Palladio) are a high-flying busy married couple. But things soon turn upside down when their mysterious new hospital colleague Mia (Adams) rents out the house next door.
“Working her way into Charlotte and Jacob’s confidence and eventually their bed, Mia also quickly befriends cul-de-sac outcast Alan (Dennis) whilst Charlotte has to handle the reappearance of past flame Leo (Ramamurthy).
“It’s not long before Mia’s past comes back to haunt her, leading Charlotte and Jacob to question who she really is, especially when patients at the hospital mysteriously start dying.”
Production for the series is already believed to be underway in Belgium.
The show became best known for its raunchy sex scenes and naked moments.
In the first series, Outlander actor Sam Heughan had fans drooling as he played a sexy cop Danny who is married to yoga teacher Becka.
Having moved to Leeds, the pair struck up a bond with their neighbours, Evie and Pete.
The show is filled with glimpses of romance, flirtation and sex and has left many fans hot under the collar watching the “smoking hot” stars tumble around on screen.
In one scene, some fans got more than they bargained for when they spied a glimpse of Sam’s bare bum.
